This is a collaborative project that I have started with two other people. We are supposed to work together to create something with a positive message. The message that we chose was 'Education is success'. We chose to do this by showing a refection in the person shape cut out and having different well educated people in the back to show what you could be. A lot of students don't take school as seriously as they should we are hoping that this will help. The problem we ran into was that we were going to use a real mirror but it just didn't work out. We solved this problem by just deciding to paint it to look like a mirror. I learned that I am a leader when it comes to group work. I also learned that I need to step back sometimes and let others help. Overall I think it was a good experience for me.
Technology
This is a form of print making called etching. To make an etching you take a piece of plexiglass and carve into it. After you have the plate cut into you put intaglio ink on it so it gets into the cracks. The hardest thing about this project was knowning how much ink to put on the plate. I also had a hard time getting the ink into the cuts on the plate.
Oil Paint Final
In this piece I perfected the skill of oil painting. Oil paints dry slower than acrylic and since I am kind of a slow worker and detail orientated person this works very well for me. The one thing that I struggled with was that it does take so long to dry that it can get hard to paint over things.
This piece was created using oil pastel. The size of this piece is 13x13 in. The thing that I learned from this project is that by using a pallet knife you can scrape of layers of the pastel if it gets too streeky.
Fauvism
Stained Glass
For this project I used the mosaic method to create this piece. The materials I used were glass, grout, and plexi glass. The biggest problem I ran into with this project was time. The size made it difficult to complete in a timely fashion.
Social Issues
This is a project that takes almost no technical skill but requires a lot of thought. The student has to choose a social issue and turn it into a stree sign. This project requires symbolisum and a small speach about why we chose to do everything the way we did on the sign. It should be recignisable and easily understood, the catch is word can not be used on the sign. One of the probles that I faced while coming up with my idea was that I tried to focus on such a narrow subject. I found that if the issue is more open it makes it a little easier.
Batik
I started with a blank canvas for this project. I first traced the outside of the frame to make sure I did not make the picture to big or too small. Once I drew the design on the canvas I covered all the lines in glue. The things that I used to create this project are glue and watered down acrylic paint.
Final Project
For this project I used an iridescent beetle for the subject. The medium I chose to use was oil paint. I used a photo reference for this painting. The size of the canvas is 8 In by 8 In. This was my first try with oil pains and I really enjoyed it. I am a really slow worker so I liked that they take awhile to fully dry.
Pop Art Project
For this project we picked a famous pop artist and did a project based off of their style. The artist that I chose was Andy Warhol. I achieved this by tracing a design that I made onto the paper then painting over it. I originally tried to screen print it but I did not work out well because the screen filler was not solid enough. In this project I got to learn how to problem solve and I now know the basics of screen printing.
Georgia O'Keeffe
For this project I used a charcoal pencil and chalk pastels. At first I just kind of went for it with this one. I didn't really even think about proportions until it was too late. This project taught me to look at the outlines first then go in for the smaller details. I used a photo reference for this and when I messed up my proportions I noticed that the picture looked nothing like what I had. After I messed up I just started over and used a box to help me to stay with in a certain boundary, this helped tremendously with proportions. My favorite part about this piece is the contrast between the masculine and feminine. The masculinity coming from the bone and the femininity coming from the choice of colors in the background.
Book Binding
This is a sketchbook that I made for weekly drawings. This is made of mat board, vinyl, paper, string, copper, and miscellaneous pictures. I really enjoyed this project because it taught me something that I most likely would not have learned otherwise. I took my time on this project and I really think that it payed off. My personal style is very vintage and I think it really showed in this project. I am extremely proud of how it turned out.
